How Senate Bill 1 Affected Wright State Diversity Programs

During the spring semester of 2025, the announcement that all efforts to support diversity, equity and inclusion, also called DEI programs, must legally shut down in compliance with Senate Bill 1 rocked campus life. Now, several months later, Wright State University students are still dealing with the fallout.

Wright State University (WSU) is home to many student-led organizations, including the coffee shop, ReyRey Cafe. Every week, the cafe partners with a different student organization to bring new flavors to the forefront. This week, ReyRey partnered with The Guardian Media Group, kicking off a new weekly cross-promotion.

Stalking Awareness Month

January is National Stalking Awareness Month, with Jan. 18 as the National Day of Action for Stalking Awareness. On Jan. 20, Wright State University (WSU) held an event to promote awareness and educate students on how to recognize various types of stalking and what steps to take when they do.

While most students know that Wright State University (WSU) was founded in 1967, few know what led up to its official founding as an independent university. Originally called “Dayton Campus,” WSU was first a branch campus of Ohio State University (OSU) and Miami University before developing its own identity.

On Jan. 20, the student-led coffee shop at Wright State University (WSU), ReyRey Café, celebrated its tenth anniversary. A celebratory event was held with commemorative cups handed out to the first 200 students in attendance.

Joshua Easterling, an intern at The Wright State Guardian, has grown his journalism skills since joining this fall semester. For Easterling, The Guardian has been a place to put himself out there creatively and collaborate with others in a field he enjoys.
