Sideline Sip: Wright State’s Student Athletic Training Program’s Drink of the Week Sept. 14 to 18

ReyRey cafe is a student-led coffee shop at Wright State and each week they partner with a different club or organization to make a drink of the week.

This week, they have partnered with the WSU Student Athletic Training Program (SATP) to create a dirty Dr. Pepper, which has been named “Sideline Sip.” The drink is made with Dr. Pepper, coconut syrup, vanilla syrup and cream.

Danielle Osborne is a WSU student majoring in athletic training and helps run the program for student athletic trainers on campus. She talked about what the purpose of the organization is and how it benefits students.

“The student organization focuses on bridging the gap between the undergraduate sports medicine students, the first year athletic training students and the second year athletic training students,” Osborne said.

All students who are majoring in sports science or athletic training can be a part of this organization to surround themselves with fellow students who are looking to build the same futures as them and get help from people who have been through the program and can support them throughout their education.

“We are also there for the students to get further practice on their athletic training skills, learn more about the profession, and just have a community within the athletic training world,” Osborne said.

Olivia Lemon took over as Chief Marketing Officer of ReyRey cafe from Logan Deyer this year and is now in charge of the drink of the week collaborations. She partnered with Osborne to create their drink and talked about what the cafe’s vision is for this year and their future collaborations.

“We want to bring in new drinks. I feel like we always do what our menu offers all week round, but we want to bring new stuff,” Lemon said. "We will encourage all of our collaborations to bring in new ideas, try new things, and we can see if we can order that in stock.”

The “Sideline Sip” has been a new exploration of the ReyRey cafe drinks, in addition to Rowdy’s drink of the week, which was a cherry vanilla lemonade with soda water. Lemon wants students to know their drinks can go far beyond what ReyRey typically serves, and they should not be afraid to bring new ideas or mix things up when they collaborate for their drink of the week.

The collaboration with the SATP is all about promotion, to make sure students know what they have to offer and can access the help they might be looking for while trying to earn their degree.

“The mission of the [WSU] athletic training program is to educate students in the domains of athletic training, preparing them to assume the role of a healthcare professional in a variety of employment settings and to optimize the quality of health care provided to patients of all ages and physical capacities, thereby maximizing their health-related quality of life,” the Master of Athletic Training website reads.

Be sure to stop by ReyRey cafe this week, Sept. 14 - 18 and ask for the “Sideline Sip,” or the drink of the week to try Lemon’s latest creation and support the SATP.
