On April 14, official student-run clubs at Wright State University (WSU) gathered at Organization Avenue for the annual spring painting event hosted by the Student Government Association (SGA).
Every year, SGA invites clubs at WSU to paint their icon on the walls of Organization Ave. This year it was hosted in the middle of April as a chance for students to take a break from stress over final exams.
If a club wanted to attend, their president was responsible for contacting SGA with their club's name for SGA to verify that they were WSU affiliated, and that it was appropriate.
Any club was welcome if guidelines were followed.
Jack Behr, SGA’s Director of Student Affairs, spoke more on this.
“They have to be registered through the school, and there can’t be any profanity,” Behr said.
There were seven openings on the wall this year, and all but two were filled.
To get the word out, Behr stated that he personally emailed 130 club presidents and received nine responses back.
Kierstan Kuntz, SGA’s School of Professional Psychology Vice President, attended the event and spoke on her personal reasoning.
“I love art and painting, so it made it an easy event to attend,” Kuntz said. “Plus, it was a great opportunity to meet other students in different organizations.”
Much like Kuntz, Aliesha Smith, SGA’s Director of Student Health and Wellness at WSU, shares a similar motivation.
“I love painting. I love art. I love creative expression,” Smith said.
Behr, Kuntz and Smith all agreed that attending this event made them feel more connected to campus and would recommend it to students who enjoy a relaxing break away from finals.
You can be more involved with SGA by keeping track of events on engage or attending a meeting once school reconvenes in August.
