Wright State Club Sports Holds the Third Annual Club Classic

Wright State University club sports competed in the third annual Club Sports Classic with over 10 competing Wright State teams.

The club sports classic began Saturday, Sept. 26, with five Wright State club teams competing. The Ultimate Frisbee tournament kicked off the classic at 9 a.m., followed by the WSU climbing competition, the pickleball and cornhole tournament and the day wrapped up with the Esports tournament in Akron at 8 p.m.

Day two of the Classic began on the following Sunday with the men’s soccer team taking down IU-Indy 1-5.

Wright State softball also earned a win in the classic, taking down the Ohio Northern Polar Bears 3-11.

Jordan Blaine, a junior at WSU who competed on the team, talks about celebrating a win and her birthday.

“It's always the best feeling in the world to win a game, especially with the best teammates I could ask for,” Blaine said. “Winning on my birthday was like a present from everyone [even the opposing team]. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better day; I got to celebrate with the people and the sport I love."

WSU football also competed in the classic with a game at 1 p.m. against Michigan State.

The Raiders were not able to get the win with a final of 7-28.

Quarterback coach for the Raiders, Kev Dixon, talks about what is to come this season for the team.

“The main thing I want to see moving forward with this team is us coming even closer, being able to play every phase of the ball with high intensity as we did in the second half of the game, and for us to be able to bring everything together to make a national championship run this year. I love this team and we will continue to fight the rest of the way as our team motto says [Hunt Together]."

The Classic also included men’s and women’s club volleyball, along with men’s club basketball and a competition cheer and dance showcase with times from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
