Wright State student-athletes show success in various ways being highlighted through their team, in games and in their conference.
Freshman Abbey Knight, for WSU volleyball, is a notable example of a freshman student-athlete who has found her place on the team and shows her dedication to the sport.
At a previous game, Knight shouted out her team after winning her first collegiate games at WSU.
“I was very nervous, but everyone on my team has my back and they can easily calm my nerves,” Knight said.
Freshman athletes at WSU are showing their success in their first collegiate season by receiving recognition in the Horizon League (HL) in multiple sports.
Freshman forward Cairo Duarte, for the men’s soccer team, just received the HL offensive player of the week after showing great stats in recent games.
Assistant coach for the men's soccer team, Adam Maloney, talks about the honor Duarte received.
"The guys are doing a good job of understanding their roles and expectations. Individual honors recognize the work that they put in, so we're happy for Cairo," Maloney said.
Stats for Duarte can be found here.
Jagger Dollenmeyer was also recently highlighted in the HL as the men’s freshman of the week. Dollenmeyer placed ninth out of 139 runners and also ran 27:30 in an 8K run.
More awards given by the Horizon League can be found here, along with any major news in the conference.
As the season has just begun for these Raiders, more success is likely to follow with more players being highlighted.
