The Wright State University (WSU) men’s baseball team hit the road to face the University of Cincinnati (UC) in a match under lights and warm weather.
Baseball is getting further into the season, and the Raiders experienced a packed and warm stadium in the city of Cincinnati.
The WSU Raiders were unable to pull out the win over the Bearcats, but were able to put points on the board. The game ended with the score of 5-8 in favor of the Bearcats.
At the start of this game, the Bearcats set the tone for the game; they were ready to play. While the Bearcats came out on top, there was no stopping Gus Gregory, number 3.
Each time UC made a play to take the lead, Gregory had a response to try to get his team back on top. He had his first home run of the season in the game and went on to hit not one, but two, two-run home runs, adding four runs to the board for the Raiders.
A fan in attendance at the game, Sloane Bacon, talked about this game performance.
“This was definitely an entertaining game to watch. Both teams played great, beside the last few innings when it came to UC being the team on top,” Bacon said
Despite the great game, the Raiders were unable to secure the win.
Courtney Hobbs, another Raider fan, talked about the two teams’ performances.
“It was a fun game to watch, like there [were] quite a few home runs throughout the game. Overall, UC played really well, and I think they deserved that win,” Hobbs said.
Hobbs added her thoughts on the next time these teams’ matchup.
“I’m excited to see [WSU] play again, I feel like they have a lot of potential, and it’ll be fun to follow them through the rest of the season,” Hobbs said.
WSU will attempt to take the victory back from the Bearcats, as they will take on UC again with their home field advantage at Nischwitz Stadium on Tuesday, April 21, at 3 p.m.
The Raiders are set to play away next, with a three-game weekend coming up against the Youngstown State men’s baseball team starting on April 10.
