ReyRey Cafe partners with new organizations each week to create a special cross-promotion. This week, the Residential Community Association (RCA) is taking its turn, leading up to Sibs Weekend.
Wright State University (WSU) is home to the student-led coffee shop, ReyRey Cafe, which provides student workers with training in various aspects of business operations.
Olivia Lemon is a barista at ReyRey and a member of the RCA council. She shared Sibs Weekend’s theme for the year, along with several upcoming events.
“We encourage our students from [WSU] to bring their sibs in, and we'll have lots of cool events over the weekend. It's next week, and the theme is superheroes,” Lemon said.
Lemon discussed the events and schedule for this weekend, sharing highlights people are excited about.
“There'll be lots of different stations, inflatables, lots of reaction games, kind of to test your superpowers. Make your own capes, mask making [and] movie nights. We'll have a comedian that [Student Involvement and Leadership] will be bringing in. And then Sunday, they can make their own sidekick; stuff a plush,” Lemon said. “There’s a lot. There’s probably over 25 events.”
Logan Dreyer is the Chief Marketing Officer for ReyRey Cafe and the Director of Leadership Development for RCA. He shared that, since kids are picky, they needed to do multiple.
As members of both RCA and ReyRey, Lemon and Dreyer worked together as representatives of both organizations to create three drink options that appeal to all ages. They first decided how to make the drinks relate back to the theme of superheroes, creating the names: “Strong Serum,” “Invisibility Potion” and “Flying Elixir.”
“Well, I was like, I'm gonna do my favorite refresher for one of them, which is the blueberry lavender refresher. And then I was like, well, we don't want to do coffee, because it's going to be oriented towards kids, and when they're here on Friday, they're not really going to get coffee. So, we went with something sweet, and that's how we landed on the strawberry raspberry lemonade,” Dreyer said. He gestured for Lemon to explain the final drink.
“Actually, Pierce made it for me one time. That's just a go-to drink he makes. And I was like, oh my gosh, it's green. And we were just thinking of the superhero, Hulk,” Lemon said.
The “Strong Serum” is a blue raspberry mango lemonade diluted with water. The blue raspberry is subtle, and the mango is the strongest flavor, followed by lemonade. This leads to a refreshing and tropical taste, and the vibrant green color, as Lemon said, is reminiscent of the strongest superhero, making this a fitting title.
The “Invisibility Potion” is a blueberry lavender refresher, which leads with the refresher’s flavor of tea. Lemonade follows, then blueberry, before finally a small hint of lavender polishes it off. Although the lavender flavor is so subtle, it is almost invisible– which is perhaps why this name was chosen for it.
The “Flying Elixir” is a strawberry raspberry lemonade, leading with every sweet and sour flavor at one time. This will leave customers with soaring energy levels, satisfying any kid’s sweet tooth, but not amping them up with caffeine. While excitement flies high for the upcoming weekend, all three of these drinks will offer consumers a tasty treat before the events start.
While ordering one of these beverages will require more specificity than ordering a usual drink of the week, they will be displayed next to the counter as options.
Registration for Sibs Weekend closes today: Monday, March 16. The full schedule can be found on RCA’s pinned Instagram post.
For a chance to be featured in The Guardian’s weekly drink of the week customer mid-week review videos, order one of these beverages on Wednesday at around 3 p.m.
