An intern at The Wright State Guardian, Lauren Mount is building a foundation in multiple areas of media through writing, radio and broadcasting.
At The Guardian, Mount writes articles covering a wide topic of Wright Life related events and organizations. She is also contributing to the upcoming project, Flight magazine.
"The Guardian and Flight magazine have offered me hands-on experience as well as confidence behind the mic and a deepening understanding of live sports production and writing," Mount said.
Her passion for broadcasting led her to the radio station, where she worked alongside Cameron Jones, Sports Director at the Radio Station, assisting with play-by-play sports commentary for WSU's volleyball, basketball and baseball games.
Combining her skills with the Radio Station and writing for the Guardian, Mount has intertwined her interest in audience engagement.
"I'm focused on building a clear path into sports broadcasting," Mount said.
With a long-term goal to work in radio, she has a strong preference for sports announcing, talk shows and even becoming a radio talk host.
Mount thinks of The Guardian as a community rather than merely an internship. The experience and the individuals that Mount has met along with her journey are her favorite aspects of her involvement.
"The Guardian is a support system, it is a way to form valuable friendships personally and professionally," Mount said.
Mount hopes to carry these relationships through her internship long after her time as a writer.
Flight magazine is an ongoing project, which Mount plans to continue with into Spring.
