Communicating Personal Truth: Meet Intern Matthew Cheshire

Wright State Guardian Intern, Matthew Cheshire, was inspired to get involved in the student media group due to his long-time fascination with media coverage. He expressed his ambitions for neutral reporting and objective truth.

“It gives me the ability to meet people where they are at, too, really feel the pulse of WSU and the state. It also helps me know what the people of WSU need and how I can be their voice,” Cheshire said.

Cheshire is a freshman majoring in communications. Before transferring to Dayton Campus, Cheshire went to the WSU Lake Campus for graphic design.

Over the course of this semester, Chesire expressed his love for political journalism. He realized that most people who experience trauma, hardship and adversity do not have a voice of their own.

“No matter what side you're on, in politics, [it] doesn’t really matter. I think we can all agree that people who don’t have a voice need a voice,” Chesire said. “I see suffering that happens in our country and around the world.”

Cheshire says he has always wanted to do something related to communicating with the public. He points out media outlets like Fox, CNN and ESPN, where he gathers information in his spare time.

“I’ve just been enthralled with [reporting],” Cheshire said.

Cheshire shared some fun facts about himself, including that he is originally from Seattle, Washington. He also prefers Android devices, due to their customization options, which he understands due to his knowledge in tech hardware and love for computers.

Cheshire shared his interest in streaming and creating political content on TikTok. Finally, he shared that his last name “Cheshire” is due to his ancestry in Cheshire, England.
