Wright State University students now have the opportunity to get involved with a new sport, now that the Women’s Club Lacrosse team has arrived. The team adds something new to the school’s club sports and gives female athletes a chance to play a fast, exciting game.
Importance of the team
On Wednesday, Sept. 10, WSU's Club Sports social media announced that a new Women’s Club Lacrosse team is coming to campus. Until now, WSU had no lacrosse options, making this new addition an exciting opportunity for students.
The club's first open field event was on Monday, Sept. 29.
"This will be super casual — open to all skill levels, whether you’ve played before or just want to check it out! Come hang out, meet new people, and help us build the foundation of something exciting here at WSU," the team's social media wrote.
This is a new experience for the entire campus. For students who already love lacrosse, it is a great chance to get involved, and for those who are new to the sport, it offers the perfect place to start and learn alongside everyone else.
Freshman Bradie Whitacre recently joined the team and even helped start the club.
“It just feels really special to me because I came from a family who played lacrosse, and being able to start this club and have people maybe come from the same background or not... having them come and be able to play on this team and just have fun it means a lot to me. I feel like it’s a very big, growing sport and I feel like it’s awesome for people and girls to have this opportunity in college to play and at not too serious of a level," Whitacre said.
The team seems to be welcoming and excited to get on the field. They have high-energy and an eagerness to start the season with everyone.
How to support the team
Even though this team is just getting started, there are plenty of ways to show support and be a part of their journey. The buzz around the program is growing, and every bit of encouragement helps keep the players motivated and ready as they gear up for a new season.
Freshman marketing major Alanah Johnson discussed how the team hoped to spread knowledge about the team.
“I plan to spread it a lot through like social media and even just hanging up stuff around buildings," Johnson said.

“[When] we have open fields, people can come even if they’re not interested, [to] really just to get an idea and invite other people. We’ll be posting about open fields and spreading the word about it. It’s very welcoming; you don’t have to know lacrosse to come, just try it out and have fun,” Whitacre said.
Promoting the team
This club can be a great opportunity for students to join and get involved on-campus.. For those interested, contact the team through their e-mail, womensclublax@wright.edu, or DM the team's Instagram account with questions.
There are a few requirements to join a club sport, all of which can be found here. All students must fill out a form, and some may also have to get physical examinations.
"Each participant must complete the forms located on Fusion Club, [and] all participants in high risk clubs must have a physical examination and medical history form completed by a doctor," the website reads.
There may also be club dues for certain club sports; reach out to the team prior to joining.
Do not miss out, get involved and be part of building something new and exciting on campus if you are interested in lacrosse.
