What to Expect During This Weekend's Club Sports Classic

Wright State University's Club Sports Classic is back this weekend, bringing two days of intense competition across multiple sports. From football and soccer to volleyball and basketball, WSU's club teams are ready to showcase their talent against schools from around the state. Whether you are looking to support your favorite team or just want to experience the energy of student athletics, this weekend has something for everyone.

Participants in the classic

This weekend, WSU is hosting a club sports classic. Saturday and Sunday will be packed with talented students and their club teams competing against opponents from other schools.

The classic will feature games from Women's and Men's Volleyball and Soccer, Men's Basketball and Football and Club Softball. The weekend will also include an ultimate frisbee alumni game and a competitive dance and cheer showcase.

This is the best weekend to go out and show support. Not only will you be supporting your favorite team, but you will also get to experience different teams and players and see how they compete for WSU.

Sophomore defensive-mid Abigail Jennings spoke in the importance of the crowd during a game.

“Usually, we get a little bit more fans, especially from other club sports, because we all get to be at home, so we all get to be together and want to win even more for your team and for the other teams, just to represent the club,” Jennings said.

WSU club teams will be playing against teams like The University of Dayton, The University of Cincinnati, Cedarville and many more. You will be able to find all the times, dates and competing opponents here.

Club football matchup

WSU's Club Football team will face off against Milwaukee on Sunday, Oct. 5. This is only the team's second game of the season, coming off a strong home opener win against Oakland, 34-30. WSU beat Milwaukee last season and hopes to repeat that success this year.

Defensive Coordinator Nolin Jackson spoke on the team this season.

“We have a good amount of people at every position that can really do a lot for us, unlike last year we had to put guys where needed. This year were more well-rounded as a team," Jackson said.

This will be a great game to support the team and help them keep up their winning streak.

Jackson mentions players to be on lookout for: “Offensively, our running back #4 junior Pablo Dewberry. For defense, #7 senior David Frederick and #1 senior Jackson Smith.”

Make sure to come out and support WSU club football this Sunday as they take on Milwaukee. With a strong team and key players ready to compete, the classic will have a lot to offer.

Club soccer matchups

The Women’s and Men’s Club Soccer teams are both set to also compete this weekend. The men’s game with take place Saturday, Oct. 4 against Indiana University-Indianapolis. The women’s team is set to compete Sunday, Oct. 5 against the University of Cincinnati.

With both teams bringing strong rosters and competitive energy, it is the perfect opportunity to see some exciting matchups.

“I would love it if we would win, if we could put any number of goals in. [But] whether we win or lose, it will be fun,” Jennings said.

This weekend is your chance to see both teams in action and show your Raider pride, with exciting matchups on both Saturday and Sunday.

Do not forget to mark your calendars and bring your friends and family out for a fun, energetic weekend supporting the Raiders!
