On Tuesday, Nov. 7, Ohio voters passed both Issue 1 and Issue 2. Issue 1 will give individuals the right to one’s own reproductive medical treatment and legally protect those who assist in this treatment, among other medical protections. Issue 2 is a ballot proposal to commercialize, regulate, legalize and tax the adult use of cannabis.
National
On Monday, Nov. 6, a second police officer was acquitted for the 2019 death of Elijah McClain, a 23-year-old Black man who, according to testimony, was injected with an overdose of ketamine by police as he was walking home near Aurora, Colorado, according to an Associated Press release.
Global
On Tuesday, Nov. 7, the Russian Federation withdrew from the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe, which established limits on conventional military equipment in Europe after the Cold War, according to a press release from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
According to NATO and a statement from the United States National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, the Allied States Parties intend to suspend operations of the CFE Treaty in December.
“Allies remain united in their commitment to effective conventional arms control as a key element of Euro-Atlantic security, taking into account the prevailing security environment and the security of all Allies,” the NATO release reads.
