Two fourth-year Wright State University students in the Boonshoft School of Medicine are helping the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the Emergency Operations Center.

Students Rinki Goswami and Vishal Dasari are currently aiding in the monitoring of the COVID-19 outbreak and tracking the spread of the illness.

Both are seniors at WSU in the Boonshoft School of Medicine and are able to assist the CDC through a very selective program.

According to a WSU news release, Dasari and Goswami are working with the CDC through the Epidemiology Elective Program (EEP).

Through this program, students are able to complete eight-week rotations studying at the CDC headquarters in Atlanta, Ga.

While there, Dasari and Goswami are helping with the surveillance, testing, management and prevention of COVID-19.

Currently, the students are halfway through their eight-week rotations.

According to Daniel Kelly, senior writer and editor for Wright State’s newsroom, both students have remained in the EEP offices and have not had any contact with COVID-19 patients.

There is no concern regarding the students’ connections with the COVID-19 at this time.

Both students are considering future work in public health because of their experiences with the EEP.
