Sports Recap: Women’s Basketball defeats IUPUI

On Saturday, Feb. 2, the Wright State Raiders hosted the IUPUI Jaguars for a Horizon League matchup at the Nutter Center. The Raiders earned the W, winning by a score of 66-59.

The Raiders were scoring early in the first half of the game, already having scored 7 points in the first two minutes of play, but IUPUI came back quickly. The score was tied at 9-9 before the Raiders again took the lead, scoring many to make the score 24-13 after just the first quarter of play. In the second quarter, both teams would find success, ending the half 38-24 with the Raiders up.

During the second half of play, things did not stop for the Raiders. It was bucket after bucket, with Wright State up by 14 points at one time. The IUPUI Jaguars were eventually able to pull within 7 points of the Raiders, but they were not able to take home the win.

Several girls scored in double digits during the game, including: Michal Miller with 13, Symone Simmons and Mackenzie Taylor with 12 and Emily Vogelpohl with 11.

The win over IUPUI puts Wright State at 18-5 overall and 10-1 in the Horizon League. Next week, the Raiders are looking to remain the Horizon League leader when they travel to Milwaukee on Feb. 7.
