WSU settles $2 million in student aid case

Wright State University settled almost $2 million with the U.S. Department of education going back to a 2015 incident regarding federal student financial aid. An audit revealed the agreement happened in the beginning of November and regarded the school years from 2013 to 2015 when the university could not show appropriate dispersal of federal funds. After WSU couldn't show evidence that students who received aid had attended classes for sure, an investigation occurred leading to new processes for keeping data and to be sure that professors are aware of all of their students.

In a report by Dayton Daily News, they found that "Wright State’s certification for administering Title IV federal aid expired in March and the school has had to get month-to-month approval since then, according to the audit. Difficulties or delays in maintaining eligibility to administer Title IV funds could negatively impact the university’s ability to attract students and maintain operations,” as stated in the audit.

WSU is expected to gain back their certification by March.
The university also said in a statement to the Dayton Daily News ”There is no chance that Wright State is going to close. While Wright State has experienced financial challenges, a remediation plan was developed and implemented to ensure its continued viability."
