UC cop indicted in shooting of Samuel DuBose

The grand jury of 12 Hamilton County citizens has reached a verdict regarding the fatal shooting of Samuel DuBose by University of Cincinnati Police Officer Ray Tensing – the charge is murder in the first-degree.

Tensing, 25, was wearing a body camera issued by the city which caught the altercation with Dubose, 43, on tape. DuBose was stopped during a routine traffic stop on July 19 and according to the video, shows DuBose leaning toward the passenger seat while turning his ignition key to start the car. Tensing then reached into the car and fired a single shot into DuBose’s head.

This is a Cincinnati first, to have a police officer charged with murder for killing someone while on duty.

"People want to believe that Mr. DuBose had done something violent towards the officer – he did not,” Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters told CNN, “He did not at all. I feel so sorry for his family and what they lost and I feel sorry for the community, too.

Tensing, 25, is now in custody and is expecting arraignment on Thursday, July 30. He has been fired from his job and faces 15 years to life, if convicted.
