This week at ReyRey Cafe, the student-led coffee shop in Dunbar Library at Wright State, the Nepalese Student Association (NSA) has its drink of the week inspired by a snack from Nepal called Titaura.
The "Titaura Lemonade" is made with lemonade, mango puree and topped with Tajín. Students can order the drink iced or frozen.
Sumegha Koirala, the CFO of ReyRey Cafe and PR Executive of the NSA, talked about why they decided to make their drink with these ingredients.
"[Titaura] is sweet and salty and savory. It comes in different flavors, but it's mostly sweet and sour. Even though we could not find that snack here, we found the next best thing," Koirala said. "We added lemonade for the sourness, Tajín for the spice and mango for the sweetness. This drink is the perfect mix of everything."
The NSA chose this week to feature their drink and organization to promote an event they are having on Oct. 20 to celebrate the largest festival in Nepal, Dashain.
The event will take place in the Apollo Room at the Student Union from 5-9 p.m. The event is open to all students and will teach people about the culture of Nepal and feature traditional Nepali food, such as rice and goat meat.
"Dashain is the biggest festival of Nepal for Hindus. It's celebrated because there is a goddess who killed [Mahishasura], a monster, and in this festival, we bring this goddess into our houses," Koirala said.
WSU has a large population of international students, with around 25% of them in the undergraduate program being Nepalese students. This drink of the week and event are a way to highlight them and their organization.
Ritu Pokharel, the Marketing Executive for the NSA, shared why students should come to their event.
"Please come by and experience Nepali culture and have some delicious Nepali food," Pokharel said.
Students can try the "Titaura Lemonade" from Oct. 12 to 16 by visiting ReyRey Cafe and asking for the drink of the week. Koirala partnered with Chloe Lemon, the Chief Marketing Officer of the cafe, and Saugat Shah, the Social Media Executive of the NSA to create this drink.
