The Wright State University (WSU) men’s baseball team took on the University of Dayton (UD) on April 15 at the Dayton Dragons Day Air Ball Park at 7 p.m.
Cy Turner, a standout player for this game, had two runs alongside Patrick Fultz, JP Peltier and Hunter Warren, who all had one run.
Even though the Raiders had great run success, they could not keep up with the Flyers, who had player Grayson Carpenter with three runs total, as well as Michael Smith Jr. and Bobby Stand, who both had two runs. The Flyers could not be stopped.
The game stayed consistent and close most of the night until the eighth inning, when UD secured the lead.
The final score for the game was 5-9 with the Flyers coming out on top. Despite the unfortunate turnout for the Raiders, fans stayed until the end of the game to show their dedication to the team.
This rivalry has now formed out of multiple matchups between the teams. UD has won three of the last four meetings against WSU.
Paige Stora, a WSU sports fan, shared her experience at her first Raiders baseball game.
“Tonight’s game was so fun. The crowd had such good energy the whole time, and overall, it was a great night for some baseball. Raider Up!” Stora said.
Since this game was a battle of the Dayton teams, a large number of fans showed up and supported their teams. WSU had their side of the stands filled, along with the lawn, with students, alumni and many other WSU student-athletes.
