Women's Bowling Ends Season with Athletic and Academic Success

Wright State University’s (WSU) women’s bowling team has wrapped up for the year after a season full of success and confidence in their sport, as well as academic performances.

The Raiders made history for the program, which began in 2022, by making an appearance in the Conference USA Championship.

The team headed to Louisiana to compete in their first full round on March 18. The No. 10 Raiders fell to No. 3 Arkansas State, who ended up securing the trophy for Conference USA overall in the first round. Despite this, the Raiders were able to pick up a point in the third round against No. 8 Sam Houston, but still were not able to lock in the match win.

Despite the unfortunate outcome for the Raiders, their success this season was undeniable as they showed an 85-39 record.

Head coach, Jeff Fleck, talked about the success this team produced this season.

“If you always tell them how good they are, try to convince them how good they are," Fleck said. "I don’t have to tell them that or convince them, they know they are good."

Alongside their bowling performances, the team was recognized by Conference USA for academics.

Conference USA announced a total of 3,725 students who maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 during the season; nine Raiders were honored this year. Hannah Dingledine, Kylie Fisher, Emma Hatfield, Kaylie Hodd and Dottie Sayles all received the commissioner's academic medal.

Emma Hatfield, a junior elementary education major, talked about how she feels about this season.

“The fact that we’ve worked so hard to get here is really crazy to think about,” Hatfield said.

To wrap up the success of the season, the Raiders announced that they are signing an Ohio native, Ali Bell, from Georgetown. She attended Eastern High School, where she holds multiple records and recognitions for her performances on the team.

With the Raiders already preparing for next season and continuing to build on their success, the team is ready to go up from here.
