Nischwitz Stadium

Nischwitz Stadium: The Home of Wright State Baseball

Wright State University (WSU) men’s baseball is a program defined by success, with multiple years of winning the Horizon League and multiple players heading to the Major League Baseball (MLB), all built at the Nischwitz Stadium.

The current standing baseball field had been around the teams since 1993, but was given its current name years later in 2000. Since 1993, updates have been coming non-stop and it was named Nischwitz Stadium in honor of Ron Nischwitz, who coached the Raiders for 30 years.

Gauge Smith, a sophomore communication major who also reports many baseball games at Nischwitz, talks on the stadium as a commentator.

“A couple things I enjoy about Nischwitz is the history and the representation of our successful players. The other thing I enjoy is the players excitement to be on the field. They realize how important each game is, no matter who they play, and you see it when you watch them,” Smith said.

Alongside the new name, the stadium now offers 560 seats for fans and many great areas for fans who prefer to stand and observe. The dugouts in the stadium are heated for the early baseball season, making sure the teams are comfortable alongside their locker room. Nischwitz also recently installed a turf field and an updated press box in 2012.

This stadium is not only for the players, but also prioritizes the fans attendance making sure to have easy access and a fun time at the games.

During games, WSU always makes sure to provide fun and entertaining activities during the in-between innings, so fans have the opportunity to watch the game but also win some cool prizes.

At the stadium, you will also see many flags, posters and even merch that reads "Raidergang," which is a term often used by the team and their socials. This has become almost like the team’s slogan, as they represent it often.

Smith added his process at the stadium and how he makes sure to announce the best show possible.

“The environment does affect the broadcast a little, depending on what occurs. However, a sign for a good announcer is making sure they don’t rattle you too much,” Smith said.

As the "Raidergang" continues to grow and build on success, Nischwitz will always be the center of it all. The next time the Raiders will be at the stadium is Friday, April 17, at 3 p.m. against Indiana State.
