Wright State University (WSU) defeated Cleveland State University (CSU) with a score of 90-61) in the Barbasol Horizon League Men’s Basketball Championship on March 4 and advances to the Semifinals at The Nutter Center.
The WSU men’s basketball team took a 29-point lead, showing the team was ready to win. The Nutter Center was packed with students and WSU fans cheering loud for the Raiders.
The basketball team was not the only winners of the night, as three WSU students received a year of tuition during halftime, approximately $13k.
Graduate student and forward Michael Imariagbe, number 33, reflected on the energy of the game.
“I feel like we came out strong, just came out locked in and ready to go [and] we couldn’t let our foot off the gas, so [we] just focused.” Imariagbe said.
The game was capped off with a 3-pointer made by Michael Cooper, number 55.
Despite coming off of a loss on their home court against Robert Morris University (68-81), WSU hit the road in two winning away games.
Head Coach Clint Sargent talked about what is up next.
“I’m just thankful to be in Indiana, we’re going to leave with gratitude and step into the moment ready just to risk it all,” Sargent said. “Regardless of who we’re playing, the mentality doesn’t change for us.”
The winning team of the second-round game of the Barbasol Horizon League Men’s Basketball Championship between Northern Kentucky University against The University of Green Bay will move on to play the WSU Raider’s.
Freshman student and forward Kellen Pickett, number 4, talked on what will come next for the Raiders.
“I’m looking forward to Indy, and we’re ready to get the job done,” Pickett said.
WSU will play in the Horizon League Men’s Basketball Championship Semifinal round Monday, March 9 in Indiana at the Corveta Coliseum.
