Greek Week: A Chance to Connect Between Chapters

This year, from March 16 to 21, the Greek Engagement Board (GEB) hosted the second Greek Week since COVID-19 at Wright State University (WSU). The week intends to bring together sororities and fraternities to engage in competitive games and events.

Teams were compiled by the GEB council, assigning multiple chapters to a single team, which participated in competitive games every day throughout the week, earning points to earn the winning spot. The winning team was announced at the last event, All Greek Formal.

The fun week of games kicked off with Monday’s event, The Amazing Race; where teams went head-to-head in obstacle courses, pickleball tournaments and a game night.

Tuesday was Water Games; teams participated in pool games that tested their strength in teamwork and Greek spirit.

Wednesday was Service Day; the team that brought in the most canned goods won points, as well as the team that could stack the tallest tower and make the best tie-blanket to donate.

Thursday night was Gameshow; Jeopardy-style games commenced, where teams had the opportunity to win points.

The final challenges came on Friday, with the Lip-Sync Battle; for the final competition, teams chose a song to lip sync to in a head-to-head performance against the other teams.

Saturday was the awards and formal ceremony where chapters received recognition of their achievements over the year, and the winners of Greek Week were announced.

The team that won included sorority chapters Alpha Omicron Pi and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., as well as fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon.

Each president from the winning team shared a shoutout to people or chapters that helped them achieve this recognition.

Rob Woodard, President of Sigma Phi Epsilon, wanted to thank his teammates, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and Alpha Omicron Pi.

“Definitely throw [my appreciation] in there, because they did a great job,” Woodard said.

Kalli Koppin, President of Alpha Omicron Pi, shouted out a few of her chapter members, specifically Alana Kolek.

“Especially Alana, because she's been at almost every single event this week, so I know she put in a lot of heart and soul into this, and I'm super proud of her for it,” Koppin said.

Armoni Collins, President of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., wants to shout out her whole team.

“Sigma Phi Epsilon and Alpha Omicron Pi, they were really nice. Everyone was welcoming and inviting, and they were participating just as much as we were, and that really means a lot, especially since our chapter is so small and their chapters are bigger than ours. I can’t wait to do it again next year,” Collins said.

The overall goal for this year's Greek Week was to build a community where chapters could unify and move beyond connecting only with people from their own chapter, which proved successful.
