Today we celebrate and recognize the hard work and persistence of student journalists around the country.
With the theme of “Resilience is Action,” the ninth annual Freedom Day “celebrates the ways that student journalists pivot, push forward and raise their voices — even as censorship, intimidation and legal threats escalate,” the website reads.
Here at The Wright State Guardian, we take pride in doing everything in our power to bring forward necessary information for students at Wright State University’s campus. This means that each and every one of our journalists has had to pivot, push forward and raise their voices to prevent from being silenced.
Being a student journalist takes an amount of resilience that many may overlook or tend to not even realize.
It is a consistent uphill battle to be the reporting voice for a community when you hear the word ‘no,’ more than you should. When information is tiptoed around, or you are directed to a different source at the last minute. Public record rights are challenged, causing a delay in obtaining information. Student journalists are constantly being silenced by external forces, but we will not allow these attempts to quiet us.
People want to read the truth. People want to see the action. People want their voices to be heard.
The Wright State Guardian is, now more than ever, pushing to bring the truth to students on topics they need to know about. From coverage on protests to details on campus crime, The Guardian is resilient and will ensure no voice is silenced.
