Snow covered Wright State University’s Dayton campus as the region dug out after Winter Storm Fern brought record-breaking snowfall to southwest Ohio.
According to the National Weather Service, 12.4 inches of snow fell in Dayton on Sunday, part of a 14-inch storm total recorded between Jan. 24 and Jan. 25.
The snowfall set multiple records in Dayton. The 12.4 inches recorded on Jan. 25 established a new daily snowfall record for that date, surpassing the previous record of five inches set in 2023. It also became the highest snowfall recorded in Dayton on a single calendar day, breaking the long-standing record of 12.2 inches set Jan. 26, 1978. The storm produced a new daily precipitation record for Jan. 25, with one inch measured, surpassing the previous record of less than an inch set in 1978.
