Big Dreams of Journalism: Meet Intern Macie Allen

Macie Allen, always having passion for journalism, sought out media involvement with The Wright State Guardian. Now a writing intern, Allen's love for the craft has further developed.

“Writing has always been my thing. It’s the one thing that I've always claimed myself to be good at, and it's the one thing I've always wanted to do with my life,” Allen said.

A communications major and media studies minor, Allen intends to go into journalism as her career.

With a similar love for modern media, Allen wants to go into a career where she can balance all of her interests.

“In eighth grade, I figured [out] that I wanted to go more into the journalism route of things. I've always been into entertainment and media, pop culture, lifestyle and all of that. Eighth grade was when I found out that entertainment journalism is a career. From then on, I've been dead set, this is what I want to do,” Allen said.

Allen graduated from Xenia High School in 2025, giving a speech at her graduation ceremony. In it, she empowered students to find their driving reason as they continued to their next steps.

“My whole big thing is, [dreams are] never unrealistic. Like, that's what I want to prove to people, because growing up, my life wasn't really super realistic for a lot of people. I grew up differently from everyone around me, and so I feel like that also was implemented from a very young age. How important it is to follow your dreams and don't let anybody tell you otherwise,” Allen said.

Allen was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 18 months old. She has used a variety of mobility aids throughout her life. For college, Allen bought her iconic red scooter. She can do everything on her own, but it sometimes looks a little different, according to Allen.

When she is not between classes or writing, Allen loves to read. Her favorite books are the “Boys of Tommen” series, as she loves the themes of anti-bullying.

Within The Guardian, her excitement for journalism continues.

“I’m still new here,” Allen said. “I definitely am glad that I joined The Guardian. I already feel so close to so many of the people. And they’re definitely welcoming and accommodating. I haven’t felt like an obstacle or a burden one time here, so I’m definitely very thankful for that. And I’m so glad to continue.”
