Additions to Student Success Center Offerings

The Student Success Center (SSC) is a spot for different resource options at Wright State University. Always having offered tutoring and writing support, they are now expanding the resources and services offered to all WSU students.

Expansions to SSC

Alison Witte is the Director of Academic Success Centers (ASC). She gave some insight of the new offerings.

“One of our biggest new offerings is our Supplies for Success Station, which is a spot in our space where students can come in and pick up school supplies that they may need free of charge,” Witte said.

She also mentioned new details about their calculator rental program, how the system is growing and how it is continuing to help WSU students.

“We have a very popular calculator rental program, and this semester, we loaned out every single calculator that we have. So, one of the things that we are looking to do in the future is expand that, purchase more calculators so that we are able to help more students cover what they need," Witte said.

Witte described that a new tutoring subject is going to be added at WSU.

“We are offering ASL tutoring now for students taking American Sign Language. And we are in the process of developing a new position, that would be tutors that actually live in the residence halls and will provide support to students there,” Witte said.

Student workers gave their opinion on the expansions and how they believe they will help students moving forward.

Joseph Boot is an accounting major, and a junior at WSU.

“I work as an SI Leader and at the front desk, so I kind of get a mix of everything that goes on here. I talk to people from other universities, and they do not really have as much in a Success Center,” Boot said.

Max Goettemoeller is a psychology major, and a WSU sophomore.

“I think really, the school offering any kind of assistance to students, either just helping them understand material better or giving them more resources, is always a good thing, no matter what subject or field moves in,” Goettemoeller said.

The director and students are looking forward to the growth and success that students will see through utilizing these services.
