On Saturday, Aug. 23, the University Activities Board hosted its first performance of the new school year at Wright State University. This performance featured comedy magician Trent James, who filled the seats with lots of laughter and amazed expressions.
Trent James the Magician
Trent James is a generational magician. He has followed in the footsteps of his father and great-grandfather. From a young age, Trent was learning new magic tricks from his father and uncle, but he got more into magic after high school.
After he was out of high school, he dove straight into the action and started doing shows around his hometown, performing anywhere and everywhere.
“I found that my show really resonated well with the college audience,” James stated.
After finding that his style of humor and magic resonated best with a college audience, James continued to spread his performance through hundreds of colleges across the country.
During his journey, he has received over twenty high honor awards, as well as being the youngest recipient of the Milbourne Christopher Award.
The show
When the show started, Trent explained how he got into the world of magic, while showing the very first trick he was taught at a young age. For him, turning a white handkerchief into maroon was everyday work, but for most, it left the crowd in awe and hooked them right in.
Emelee Porter is a senior at WSU, who is majoring in nursing. She is also the President of the UAB.
“He was really funny and really interactive with the crowd,” Porter said.
Throughout the show, James was extremely interactive with the crowd and had many volunteers to help him with his magic tricks.
During an act, he called freshman Isabella Smith to the stage. She gave him a dollar, and he lit it on fire. By the end of the trick, she was pulling her dollar out of an orange.
“He burned my dollar, put it in an orange, and then gave it back to me,” Smith exclaimed.
By the end of the show, the audience was blown away by the sheer talent of James. He has the ability to not only do the most unexplained tricks, but he also gives a fresh new look into the magic realm with his fun, comedic twist.
