On Saturday, Aug. 23, Wright State University's Campus Recreation hosted another Weeks of Welcome event: Rec the Night. With special guests The Kid Brothers band playing live, as well as various games and activities to do, the night was filled with new memories.
Things to do
Rec the Night was hosted to provide a fun night for all those around campus. With many different activities going on, there was something for everyone who attended.
Emma Evans is a freshman at WSU who attended the event and shared that she had a lot of fun.
“I like how many things there are to do at the event, so if something's not your vibe, there's something else that you can do,” Evans said.
As the event started, attendees lined up in the upper atrium. Some students had caricatures drawn of themselves, which served as a new decoration to add to their room to remember the night. Not only were there illustrators, but many of the students also received henna tattoos by incredible artists throughout the night.
If those activities were not your cup of tea, there was plenty more to do, from rock climbing in the dark to making your very own slime and dancing your heart away to a live performance from The Kid Brothers.
A second-year student, Dylan O’Brien, took it upon themself to make their own different kinds of slime throughout the night.
“I thought it wasn't gonna like it as much, because it was overwhelming last year, but I feel like it's more chill this year, which I like,” O’Brien said.
Live performance
Not only were there multiple activities to enjoy throughout the night, but Campus Recreation hosted a band from Texas. This band, which has previously opened for pop artist Bruno Mars, is called The Kid Brothers.
The band is extremely talented, and the music they played at the event ranged from covers of Bruno Mars to original songs performed by the band.
They knew how to work a crowd and got the energy going with their creative music and performance. Many enjoyed dancing the night away and getting into the beat throughout the night.
Prizes and more
Many folks attended for the chance to win different prizes, such as a Nintendo Switch, a Ninja Creami, a Keurig mini, a JBL Speaker and many more prizes. As the night moved on, these prizes were distributed.
Although the event had great attendance, freshman Koen Larrison explained that the event was recognized later than he would have liked, but that did not stop him and many others from having a blast.
“I wish they gave a day before notice... I found it on the Corq app thankfully,” Larrison said.
