Here is Everything to Know About and For Transfer Students

Transfer students make up one-fourth of Wright State University’s student body, at roughly 26% of the overall population. Whether that be from a community college or another university, WSU has transfer students who come from all over.

How to transfer and transfer requirements

Students need at least a 2.0 GPA and a minimum of 30 credits from college-level courses from another college to transfer to WSU.

Students need to apply for Undergraduate Admission, then submit transcripts from all previous colleges. Transfer students will need high school transcripts as well if they are transferring with fewer than 30 college credits.

Transfer students can use tools and resources like Transferology.

"Transferology is a free, online self-service tool that allows you to research how your credits will transfer and apply from one school to [WSU],”  WSU’s Transfer Credits and Evaluation website says.

The Transfer Center at WSU is also a useful source, as it is full of advisors, transfer guides and events that are there to assist transfer students.

Community college vs university

In WSU’s statistics, transfer students are categorized between community colleges and universities.

The top transfer community colleges are Sinclair College, Clark State College, Edison State Community College, Columbus State Community College and Community College of the Air Force.

The top transfer universities are University of Cincinnati, The Ohio State University, Bowling Green State University, Ohio University and University of Dayton.

WSU has partnership programs with other community colleges, like the Wright Path Program and Ohio Guaranteed Transfer Pathways (OGTP).

"Begin your journey by earning an associate degree at a community college. Then, transition to [WSU] to finish your bachelor’s degree. Along the way, you can enjoy the experiences and communities found on both campuses," the Wright Path Program website reads.

The Wright Path Program provides academic support, scholarship opportunities and a smooth transfer process for community colleges like Sinclair Community College, Clark State College and Edison State Community College.

The OGTP creates a seamless transition for students with a specific major transferring from schools like Columbus State Community College.

Grade levels and majors

Most transfer students are sophomores or juniors when they transfer to WSU. This is because they have completed at least some college work and courses. Michelle VanHuss, the Wright Path Program Manager, discussed this.

“We encourage transfer students to complete their associate’s degree before they come [to WSU],” VanHuss said.

That means that transfer students have probably gotten their associate’s degrees already or they are working towards their degree with past college credits and college experience.

The top five majors for transfer students are nursing, psychology, computer science, organizational leadership, and elementary education (P-5) according to the latest infographic.

WSU offers plenty of opportunities for students to transfer to the main campus; those interested should look more into the services available.
