Severe weather in Raider Country

On June 11, two confirmed tornadoes touched down in the Miami Valley, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. With one in Tipp City and one in Christiansburg, both tornadoes were EF0, which indicates wind speeds of 65 to 85 miles per hour. 

Board of Trustees approves budget

The Wright State Board of Trustees approved the fiscal year 2024 budget on June 16. The university expects $225.8 million in revenues and $237.5 million in expenses.

National

Trump pleads not guilty

On June 14, former President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty to 37 federal charges that he kept classified government documents, according to an Associated Press release

National championships

Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets won the National Basketball Association Championship on June 12, going 4-1 against the Miami Heat. This is the first NBA championship for the Nuggets.

The Vegas Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup on June 13, topping the Florida Panthers 4-1. The six-year-old team fell to the Washington Capitals in the 2018 finals.

Suspected rebels kill 41 in Uganda

According to an Associated Press release, rebels killed 41 people, including 38 students, at a secondary school in Uganda near the border with Congo. 


“Authorities blamed the massacre at Lhubiriha Secondary School in the border town of Mpondwe on the Allied Democratic Forces, a shadowy extremist group with ties to the Islamic State, which has been launching attacks for years from bases in volatile eastern Congo,” the press release reads.
