The Residential Community Association held an open microphone karaoke night with a live band in the Student Union for a fun, relaxing evening on Friday.
The event
Ramata Ngaide, the co-advisor at RCA, voiced the tradition of open mic night at RCA.
“Live band is pretty much a traditional event. We do this every year, and this is the fifth year of hosting,” Ngaide said.
RCA hired a professional band, “Live Band Karaoke”, as well as an audio visual team for the night, according to Mathew Correll, the Residential Academic Ambassador at Hamilton Hall.
“Tonight consisted of a live band having a lot of fun playing with many students on campus. We all had fun supporting each other and dancing around while being silly,” Correll said.
The event was ‘open mic,’ allowing students to request a song before performing on stage, according to Correll.
Students in attendance expressed thoughts of the event as well as if it aligned with expectations.
“It did not go to my expectations because I expected everyone to sing a lot worse than they do. There was a good turnout of people who can actually sing, which is a little surprising,” Isaac Meyer, a financial services senior, said.
Student Emrys Gardner shared thoughts of the event, including some personal growth reflection.
“It’s a lot of fun, I wasn’t expecting to go up and sing, but I finally got the courage to do it,” Gardner exclaimed.
Meyer also voiced motivations to partake in the event.
“I saw a poster up in the Creative Arts Center, and I wasn’t doing anything tonight so I said ‘why not do some karaoke?’”
Future of RCA
Ngaide expressed the outlook for RCA in the coming weeks.
“Next week, the RCA board is going to Kent State for a conference with RCA boards from different schools,” Ngaide said.
RCA is also hosting a premier of “Black Panther 2” for students at Regal Cinema Fairfield Commons starting Nov. 14, according to Ngaide. More information about RCA and its events can be found on the organization’s Engage page.
