No spring break trip, whether it is to a local attraction or a destination across the country, is complete without a great playlist. To help usher in the celebratory, bright mood of spring break, here is a collection of songs that can go well with almost any vacation scenario.
Songs for road trips
“When the Curtain Falls” by Greta Van Fleet
This is one of those songs that deserves to be blasted while driving down the interstate in a top-down convertible. That is a fact. “Highway Tune” by the band also deserves a mention here for the same reason.
“Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift
Spring break is a time to shake the thought of homework out of existence and just have fun, so this is the perfect song to belt out and dance in the car to.
“Born to Be Wild” by Steppenwolf
One of the first heavy metal songs, Steppenwolf’s 1968 track is a perfect driving song from the opening riff and sets up a time to be, well, wild.
“Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen
No playlist of mine would be complete without a Queen song, and this one exudes the feeling of having fun without anything getting in the way, which makes it perfect for spring break.
Songs for a day at the beach
“Put Your Records On” by Corinne Bailey Rae
Recently covered by indie rock artist Ritt Momney, this 2006 song is the personification of sunshine, from the melodic guitar instrumentation to Rae’s soft vocals, and it is also incredibly catchy.
“Summer Breeze” by Seals and Crofts
The best songs to jam out to on spring break are those that are timeless, and this track from 1972 is no exception. It exudes a calm, summer energy that never fades.
“Watermelon Sugar” by Harry Styles
One of the biggest songs of 2020, this song gave an escape to the beach to those stuck in quarantine. The orchestration and overall vibe of the tune help it remain for the real thing.
Songs for a night out with friends
“Let’s Get It Started” by The Black Eyed Peas
A fun bop from the band’s 2003 album Elephunk, “Let’s Get It Started” is perfect to begin an exciting night out accompanied by close friends with its upbeat energy.
“Dynamite” by BTS
“Dynamite” marked the first time a BTS song was recorded entirely in English. The simple lyrics and funky bassline make it incredibly fun to dance along to the song and light up the night.
“One More Time” by Daft Punk
Daft Punk recently ended their music career after 28 years, and their music is iconic. “One More Time” is the perfect song to close the night due to its funky instrumentation and catchiness, and it will likely not leave spring break playlists any time soon.
