Dayton Mall Elder-Beerman is expected to close

The Elder-Beerman at the Dayton Mall, a department store known for its’ expensive clothing and home products, is expected to close.

An estimated amount of over 122 workers received a notice about layoffs potentially taking in the incoming months, according to Dayton Daily News. In early January, Bon Ton Stores Inc. announced they were expecting to close overs 40 stores across the Montgomery County area by the end of the year.

On April 4, Dayton Daily News and other news source reported that Washington Prime Group Inc. and Namdar Realty Group are looking to buy Bon Ton Stores Inc. after they announced their bankruptcy back in early February.

The company Bon Ton Stores Inc. who controls numerous stores including their subsidiary Elder-Beerman, told the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services in a letter on April 6 that they would be “laying off their employees Dayton Mall store as well as 330 employees at the company’s fulfillment center in West Jefferson,” according to Dayton Daily News.

The letter also emphasized the importance of Elder-Beerman’s closing dates may vary due to outside groups bids on the store. The department store is expected to meet with investor groups in a court-supervised sale process. Bon Ton Stores Inc is also aware of outsiders' groups interest in Elder-Beerman and hopes jobs will be preserved. “We remain committed to pursuing the best path forward for the Company and its stakeholders, including Bon-Ton associates,” the company stated in the DDN article.
