Men's soccer drops final home game

Wright State failed to find the net Friday, Nov. 6 and dropped to fourth place in the Horizon League, as Oakland bested the Raiders men’s soccer team 2-0 at Alumni Field.

The Raiders entered the match virtually tied with Oakland for third place, separated only by Wright State’s overall record of 10-6-1.

Now, sitting at 10-7-1 (4-4-1 Horizon League) the Raiders will have to await the announcement of their next opponent, though head coach Bryan Davis doesn’t care whom the Raiders face.

“We’ll take whoever comes. I don’t care who it is,” Davis said.

Davis did a little further than one would expect, saying he hopes to see Northern Kentucky or Detroit in the Horizon League tournament. Wright State fell in overtime to Northern Kentucky and Detroit—at home.

Speaking of “home,” Friday’s loss gives the Raiders a 3-5-1 record at Alumni Field.

“I guess we’re not good at home this year, so it’s good we get to go on the road now,” Davis said.

The Raiders are 5-2 on the road, with losses at then No. 17 Kentucky and Horizon League regular season champion UIC.

The Horizon League tournament begins Monday, Nov. 9 and from here on out, it’s literally “win or go home.” That’s not an idea that sits well with Davis, wanting his players to realize that if Monday brings another loss, they’ll lose more than a game.

“I believe in them. I’m not losing that faith,” Davis said. “I told them ‘We’re playing to stay together.’”
