Student Spotlight: Alexandria Hoferkamp

Alexandria Hoferkamp

Everyone dreams of traveling and college is the perfect time for new experiences. Whether it is sailing around the world, taking some classes at a university in Europe or interning at a major company, students have the opportunity to learn and gain experience in a new and refreshing setting. Alexandria Hoferkamp is one of many students taking advantage of such opportunities.

The average college student might think of sunny skies, the beach and surfing at the mention of California, but what about marketing and sales? For three months, Hoferkamp is an intern at Populus Brands, a small marketing company in Los Angeles dealing with branded entertainment and business development, specifically integrating certain brands into television shows.

The ambitious student says that she “likes the idea of being able to influence people’s lives and the purchases they make…so finding new ways to market to consumers is fun.” Hoferkamp will work on a television show, one which the CEO of the company she’s interning at co-produces.

Working in a place that can give Hoferkamp the experience for several different career paths is extremely beneficial and it’s what inspired her to accept the internship in the first place.

“I don’t know exactly what I want to do with my future,” Hoferkamp said, “and being a part of a company that does so many different things gives me a chance to learn about different aspects of the entertainment industry.”

Some might have reservations about traveling across the country; however, Hoferkamp strongly recommends the experience to any able student.

“The experiences you gain and the people you meet, even if the experience doesn’t turn out how you expected, will only benefit you. No matter what job you’re looking for, knowing people in that industry can only help advance your career and get you where you want to be faster. Being able to put something like this on my resume makes me a more attractive candidate.”

The internship is about more than finding a job, however. “I’ve learned a lot about myself through this experience and that can only help me when moving forward with my career.”

Students everywhere are looking for a way to advance their careers and further their education and though it’s a big step, Alexandra Hoferkamp has only one answer: Sometimes it’s tough, but taking a risk and traveling or interning can only be good for you.
