Stolen car found in campus lot

Wright State University Police recently found a vehicle on campus today, Monday Feb. 16, that was reported stolen last week.

According to the email sent out by WSU police, a 2012, black Ford Focus had been reported stolen and was believed to be taken between 8am and 9pm on Wednesday, Feb. 11.

WSU Police Captain David Ratliff stated that an officer was patrolling campus and found a car in a parking lot that matched the description of a stolen vehicle. After running the license plate number, he found that it was indeed stolen and processed the car for evidence.

This reported theft is the most recent in a string of two other thefts that have occurred this year.

However, WSU police believe that they have figured out how the culprit is committing the thefts.

“The victims have been faculty so far,” Ratliff said. “We think that they’re entering offices and stealing keys that have been left unattended.”

Ratliff recommends that students and faculty members keep their keys on their person and their personal possessions near them at all times. WSU Police also recommend students and faculty lock their cars, faculty members lock their offices and park in well-lit areas.

Ratliff encourages anyone that sees suspicious behavior or people that look out of place to call WSU police at (937) 775-2111.
