Burst pipe floods Student Union, building now reopened

UPDATE - The Student Union has been reopened to the public.

Students and faculty were evacuated from the Student Union on Wright State's campus Friday evening due to flooding of lower level areas of the building.

The Student Union sprinkler system burst late in the afternoon, which caused the fire alarm to sound just before 4:55 p.m., causing everyone to evacuate the building. Many students were huddled in the tunnel connector of Russ College of Engineering and Computer Sciences instead of waiting out in the cold.

WSU Police Sergeant Richard Coy commented on the incidence saying, “No one was hurt and there are so far no damages except for the pipe that needs repaired.” It has been confirmed that the water pipe ruptured due to the recent extreme temperatures in the area.

Crews are working to clean up the floors and to repair the damaged pipe.
