Sports shorts: Swimming and diving dominates Ashland

The No. 22-ranked Wright State men’s swimming squad had a dominating 224-73 win over Ashland Saturday afternoon.

The women’s squad also marked a 163-126 win over the Eagles.

Raider John Vigar had a controlling win in the 1000-yard freestyle event with a time of 9:56:42 which was 23 seconds better than Ashland’s Lukas Jachno.

The team of Vigar, Alec Carnell, Alfred Pappe, and Lucas Osgood won the 400-yard freestyle relay with an impressive time of 3:08:74.

The Raiders get the week off before having their conference home opener against Green Bay on Oct. 24.

Women’s soccer: Raiders remain unbeaten in HL play

The WSU women’s soccer team put together another solid defensive outing last Saturday forcing a scoreless tie at Valparaiso to go to 2-0-1 in conference play this season.

Goalkeeper Brooke McCurdy was unyielding once again between the pipes for WSU stopping all three Valpo chances. McCurdy also fired a shot on goal as a ‘keeper.

Valpo outshot WSU 17-9 for the contest.

In WSU’s last four contests, the Raiders have a 3-0-1 record and have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 7-1.

The Raiders are back on the road today to face Detroit before returning home Saturday to host Milwaukee.

Club Hockey: WSU finds first win of season during three-game road trip

After losing its first seven games of the 2013 season and getting outscored by their opponents 47-13 during the same stretch, the Wright State club hockey team flipped the script Sunday, defeating Indiana University of Pennsylvania 6-4.

The Raiders will travel next to Louisville for two games at Iceland Sports Complex on Friday and Saturday.
