Senior nursing majors at Wright State University offered flu shots to WSU employees in the Student Union Rathskeller room Thursday.

“The more people that get the flu shot, the less chance that they’re going to get sick,” said Kelly Delaney, a senior nursing major.

Since Oct. 23, WSU Clinical Instructor Karen Findley’s public health nursing class has been giving the injections. As of Thursday afternoon, they had given nearly 700 flu shots to benefit eligible employees.

“We have a lot of students, and when one gets sick, everyone gets sick,” said Pam Lavarnway, professor of theater arts, who got a flu shot on Thursday.

For the nursing majors, this learning opportunity is different than other clinicals, student Erin Harris said. Each week, the group has been operating at a different location. Wednesday, the students offered the shots at the WSU Lake Campus.

“The more that they do, the more confidence they will have when they graduate,” said Findley. “It’s a good opportunity to keep repeating the skills they learned.”
