Beavercreek approves Pentagon Blvd. busing

With millions of dollars of potential federal funds at stake, Beavercreek’s City Council approved the addition of three new bus stops near Fairfield Commons Mall Monday evening.

After years of wrangling and lawsuits, the motion passed by a 5-2 margin.

According to U.S. Department of Transportation administrator Warren S. Whitlock, the city faced a loss of up to $10 million in federal funds for not allowing bus stops in its city.

The DOT’s findings claimed that the city’s action had a ‘disparate impact on African Americans.’

The nearest bus stop to Fairfield Commons is near the Student Union at Wright State. The walk from the Student Union to the mall is 1.5 miles with much of the route not including sidewalks, according to DOT.
