The future of campus parking: Parking lot rumors clarified

Rumors have been flying about Wright State’s parking plans for the next year. One of the most worrisome rumors was that the parking lot in front of the Student Union was slated to become a staff-only lot. Kathy Davidson from the Office of Facilities Planning and Development said that isn’t the case. “There are plans to build a new research building near the Russ Engineering building. The contractor will probably take about three rows of parking between White Hall and Russ,” Davidson explained. “Those rows will be moved to the area in front of Joshi.” It’s no secret that students have mixed feeling about Wright State’s parking. As Emily Crenshaw, a senior commuter student explained it, WSU parking is “really difficult, especially if you have an afternoon class or you don’t have class at 8 a.m.” On the other hand, another student, Caitlin Brown remarked, “I haven’t really had so many problems with it. You can always park somewhere, it just might take a while.”

As far as any major changes in WSU’s parking, Davidson says they’ll be waiting a while. “There’s going to be a new classroom building, and we’re not sure how much space the contractor will need for equipment put-down,” Davidson added. “But the Student Union project is over this July, so all of that will be cleared up before then.” Suggestions or concerns about new projects around campus?
