Construction on the new Neuroscience and Engineering Collaboration building will begin in 2014 and should be ready for occupancy in June of 2015, according to Wright State.
The building will host facilities for the Boonshoft Medical School and the Department of Engineering, as well as common areas. It will be located between Alumni Tower and Lot 17, next to the Russ Engineering Center.
The interior of the structure of the 90,000 square foot structure will include an atrium and an auditorium, as well as several laboratories, classrooms and offices. The building will consist of four floors, and will include a balcony space intended for graduate research students.
"It's a meeting and collaboration space for researchers," said University Grounds Committee Representative and Student Government Chief of Staff Spencer Brannon. "It will overlook the athletic fields."
The $37 million project will be funded through $20 million in bonds issued by Wright State, $12 million granted from the state and $5 million in donations. The state also granted $186,000 for art features for the building, according to Brannon.
Some of the facilities in the building will be constructed with vibration dampeners, because some of the equipment in the building would be disturbed by movement as minuscule as an elevator running, according to Brannon.
Brannon said that the new building would help to further advance Wright State's medical school.
"We're going to have world class research facilities on campus to draw the brightest minds, and help to culture the brightest students." Brannon said.
