Student dies from Influenza A virus

Wright State Junior, Amelia Catherine Perry, died at the age of 22 on Tuesday after being hospitalized with the influenza A virus, according to the Dayton Daily News and the Greene County Combined Health District.

Perry was a communications major at Wright State and a 2008 graduate of Fairborn High School. She worked as a hostess and server at Milano’s in Beavercreek.

Perry’s death is the second that has taken place in the region, and the third reported in Ohio in the past two weeks.  Since October there have been 1, 922 flu related deaths, while at this time last year there were less than 100, according to the Dayton Daily News.

The Greene County health department urges everyone to get a flu shot.

According to Wright State, "flu shots are available on campus in Student Health Services and from Wright State Physicians in the WrightCare clinic."
