With National Transfer Week fast approaching, transfer students at Wright State are being put at the forefront, showing growth and development within the transfer.
Oct. 19 through 23 is National Transfer Week, which is when students from other institutions transfer to another institution to complete their education. To represent these students, Wright State has a week of festivities for them, with events that include a panel talk with the transfer team and more.
According to the press release from the university, Wright State is dedicated to helping their transfer students complete their degrees.
“Students who transfer to Wright State bring unique knowledge, skills, and experiences that benefit our entire Raider/Laker community,” the press release reads. “This week brings awareness to the contributions of our transfer community and engages the entire campus about the transfer experience."
The Facts: Numbers and Support
Transfer students make up approximately 52% of the student population of Wright State. Within the 46% of all students who graduate with a 4-year degree, 62% of that group are transfer students.
This is seemingly due to all of the resources that transfer students have when choosing Wright State. Programs like the Wright Path Program offer students from colleges like Sinclair Community College, Clark State College and Edison State Community College the opportunity for support.
The Wright Path Program helps students earn their associate degree while they are in their community colleges, according to the Wright Path program manager, Michelle VanHuss.
“We encourage transfer students to complete their associate's degree before they come,” VanHuss said.
According to data provided by Wright State, transfer students on average have up to 60 credit hours that transferred from a two-year college. 32% of the transfer students coming to Wright State have already earned their associate's degree. Wright State partners with the Ohio Guaranteed Transfer Pathways Program (OGTP), which allows students to gauge where their credits are gonna go in their program before they come on campus.
In addition to OGTP, students can utilize Transferology, which is a program that allows students to check how their previously earned credits would be accounted for at WSU.
Additionally, students are encouraged to reach out to the Transfer Center on campus with any concerns while at WSU. The center acknowledges the difficulties in transferring and assists students to the best of its ability.
“Transfer students do not follow a linear path in their application and matriculation to Wright State, so it is important that the Transfer Staff communicate effectively and continue to engage students throughout the admissions process,” the statement said. “The end goal is to assist the transfer students through the entire process and have them in the classroom the first day of class.”
