Milestone Matcha: Academic Engagement’s Drink of the Week April 13 to 17

ReyRey Cafe is a student-led coffee shop at Wright State University (WSU) that works with new communities and organizations on the Dayton campus every week. Through these cross-promotional efforts, both the cafe and the chosen group spread the word further about their events or programs. From April 13 to 17, ReyRey is collaborating with Academic Engagement to promote their upcoming event on Thursday.

Academic Engagement is a unit under WSU’s Division of Student Success, working to hold events that interest students and get them excited about their schoolwork.

“The Academic Engagement Unit envisions [WSU] as a national leader in student-centered academic engagement. Our vision is to ensure every student is equipped to thrive academically and personally,” Academic Engagement’s website reads.

Catherine Hernandez Hogan is the Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Engagement. As the head of the unit, Hogan has worked to make this event great. One effort she took was contacting ReyRey Cafe to kickstart this collaboration.

Logan Dreyer is the Chief Marketing Officer for ReyRey Cafe. He is responsible for curating a new drink each week and promoting the organization through social media, including collaborations with other groups.

“Their event is going on [this Thursday], it's their first year certificate ceremony,” Dreyer said.

Dreyer is a lover of matcha, but has not yet had a caramel apple flavor combination that he and Hogan selected for this week.

“I haven't had it in a matcha form, but I have had it as a latte and a chai, and they're both very good,” Dreyer said.

The Milestone Matcha is a caramel apple matcha. It is very sweet, much like the accomplishment that first-year students are celebrating. The flavors of the apple and caramel syrup take the immediate lead, leaving the matcha as a subtle taste. However, as the drink is enjoyed, the matcha comes out stronger with each sip, making this drink a good choice for people who are trying to ease their way into enjoying matcha. Of course, if you are already a fan of the iconic green drink, this version will be up your alley.

This year’s First Year Certificate Ceremony is on Thursday, April 16. It will be held in the Apollo Room of the Student Union from 4:30 to 7 p.m. First-year students and their families are invited to attend and enjoy the free food, games and celebration of their achievement.

Attendees will also be given the chance to win one of ten scholarships, each putting $500 toward the winners’ futures. If you are a first-year student, you do not want to miss this opportunity for fun or the opportunity for a scholarship. To learn more about the details of the event, read here.

The Milestone Matcha can be ordered as easily as requesting the drink of the week from now until April 17, so make sure to stop by ReyRey and pick it up.
