ReyRey Cafe partners with a different club each week, promoting an organization and upcoming events through a newly branded beverage. For the last week of February, that is the Chemistry Club.
Wright State University (WSU) hosts many unique groups for students to join, one of which is ReyRey Cafe. As a consistently busy student-led coffee shop, ReyRey creates the opportunity for other organizations to advertise themselves or their events.
Logan Dreyer, Chief Marketing Officer for ReyRey Cafe, runs social media and works to cross-promote with other student organizations every week. This week, it is the Chemistry Club’s turn, and the group came to Dreyer requesting their drink be a white chocolate mocha with raspberry.
“That was actually the Chemistry Club’s drink last year, and they wanted to redo the same one,” Dreyer said. “It's like, probably top five [favorite drinks] for me.”
Every week, Dreyer and the selected club create a memorable name. The “Ionic Infusion” is the title for this week’s concoction.
The first flavor that comes through in the drink is the white chocolate mocha, which is creamy and sweet. Shortly after, a wave of raspberry rounds out the beverage, heightening in the aftertaste. It creates a well-rounded flavor that will check every box for coffee-lovers.
President of the Chemistry Club, Maggie Mann, is a senior majoring in chemistry. She spoke about the reasons the club sought a collaboration with ReyRey.
“Drink of the week helps get the word out there about the club, and gives you that connection on campus,” Mann said. “Everybody comes to ReyRey, so it gives you a good chance to do some marketing for your club.”
Mann explained that they settled on the name “Ionic Infusion” because they wanted to pick something chemistry-adjacent, while still ensuring the name sounded appealing. According to her, many chemistry terms sounded “gross” in reference to a drink, which was not the impression the club wanted to give.
With the fruity kick added to the coffee, there is a twist on the classic white chocolate mocha, all blending nicely and suiting the creative name.
“[Chemistry Club] gives you a lot of opportunities to network with the faculty and other students in our major, as well as just people taking your classes. We do a lot of study night events, so you can have that support that you need in your classes, because chemistry is hard. And then we do a lot of fun activities,” Mann said. “So, we do some fun experiments as well, and just kind of bring people together with science. [That] is what the Chemistry Club is about.”
From Feb. 23 to Feb. 27, the Ionic Infusion can be ordered as simply as requesting the drink of the week.
Order it on Wednesday, Feb. 25, around 3 p.m. for a chance to be featured in The Guardian’s weekly Instagram post, with WSU students' mid-week review of each drink of the week!
