Holding the role of Web Designer at The Wright State Guardian, Samir Husen strives to make several changes throughout The Guardian’s website, all relating to his goal to increase user engagement.
“My goal when joining the team was to enhance the website by making it more interactive," Husen said. “While I have ran into many roadblocks while trying to complete the projects I had in mind, I think changes will be made soon.”
Since joining The Guardian in the Fall of 2025, Husen has been working on implementing a comment section for each article, allowing readers to share their thoughts directly onto the website. He shared that he has more ideas for upcoming enhancements, including a “Meet the Team” page.
As a second-year graduate student at Wright State University (WSU), Husen is pursuing his master's degree in computer science. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Wolverhampton, also in computer science.
After graduating, Husen plans to begin working as a full-stack developer, with tentative plans to pursue a Ph.D. later in life.
“I hope to work as a full-stack developer soon after graduating,” Husen said. “They handle everything on websites, from front end to back end, which is exactly what I want to do.”
Husen shares that he has very little free time for hobbies between his schooling and work but enjoys cooking whenever he is able to.
“I love trying new recipes and creating new dishes," Husen said. "I mainly make different Nepali dishes."
Eventually, Husen would like to go back to Nepal. An international student, this is where his family lives and he is from. But for now, Husen has been enjoying his time at WSU, and at The Guardian.
"I love that WSU has a very supportive environment with many cultural events that make us [international students] feel at home, although we are really far from our home," Husen said. "And obviously, I love our Guardian team."
