The Wright State University Board of Trustees is currently hiring for a Student Trustee Position, a position that ensures the student body has a voice in university governance and decision-making.
About the position
The WSU Student Trustee is a two-year Governor-appointed position. The position is a part of the Board of Trustees, made up of nine community members and two student members.
The board holds quarterly two-day meetings, consisting of Committee Days on Thursdays, and Executive Sessions on Fridays. The committee represents WSU in various ways, forming and passing policies that impact the life and community on campus.
The two student positions stagger their starts, so the applicant who gets the position this year will be working closely with current Student Trustee Lauren Johnson.
Johnson is a second-year finance, accountancy and financial services triple major. She explained how her first year serving has been one of the most impactful experiences.
"By stepping into this position, I get to serve others and push myself to be better than before," Johnson said.
Representing WSU students
Madisyn Crabtree is a marketing major who has served in the student trustee position for the last two years. During her last few months holding the position, she has stressed the importance of it.
“Without students, there is no university,” Crabtree said.
Acquiring this position gives one the power to advocate for themselves and their peers. They are able to bring issues to the Board that they feel need to be addressed and allow for a student perspective to be included in the decision and policymaking.
“To me this position is an honor and is a chance to bridge the gap between students and administration, advocate for student needs and contribute to important decisions,” Johnson said.
In addition, the Student Trustee also brings student accomplishments and involvements to light, recognizing the students who value leadership on campus.
Why you should apply
Not only does the position allow for WSU students to have a representative on the board, it also allows development of skills that will be impactful in future career goals.
“You will grow professionally, which will contribute to your success as an employee or employer in the future,” Johnson said.
Being a part of the board allows you to build connections outside of WSU. The board consists of many different community members who come from different professions and backgrounds, making this an incredible networking opportunity.
“I’ve received some of the best mentorship and advice ever from this group of people,” Crabtree said.
Mackayla Stachler, a biology student at WSU, applied for the position with hopes of making a difference in the university.
"I hope to make connections that will help me in the future as well as advocate for my fellow students for things that truly matter," Stachler said.

To apply, you must meet all of the following requirements: You must be a full-time WSU student, be an Ohio resident with the ability to vote, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and have two or more years before graduating.
