Movie Review: Incredibles 2

The highly anticipated sequel, “Incredibles 2”, hit theaters in mid June after 14 years since the first film.

It began with an adorably heartwarming Pixar short film, Bao, the audience first gets a taste of the sweet magic of animation and storytelling.

The story line follows where the last film left off: three months after the family defeats Syndrome. The Underminer makes his appearance and attacks the city just after Dash, the second oldest child, competes in a track competition. The super family whips into action and you're taken on a ride that leaves you wishing you had super powers.

Although this is a sequel and has the same feel as the first film, new characters are introduced; including allies, enemies and superheroes across the world.

The film also has a refreshing take on the role reversal of the working mom and stay at home dad when Mrs. Incredible takes on a job as Elastigirl in efforts to make superheroes legal. Great laughs are to be had at Bob's determined effort to succeed at parenting. With many relatable struggles; like helping with the infamous, troublesome and ever-changing math homework.

Mischief is afoot, and the family must come together to defeat not only the Underminer, but also a mysterious villain who calls themselves the Screenslaver.

The search for Screenslaver leads both the characters and the viewer on a fun quest to find out who the scoundrel could be.

The hilariously adored Edna Mode makes a comeback, carrying out a favor for Bob when the qualms of parenting finally get to him. Mode's contribution, which comes to no surprise, is a brilliant one.

The movie is extremely entertaining throughout. Children and adults alike are bound to enjoy it, but caution should be taken by parents that don't take too kindly to curse words.

Unexpectedly, slurs occur in a couple of scenes. Aside from this, it's the perfect family movie.

Often, sequels can be risky business. It's a shot in the dark to know whether it can live up to the expectation of the first film; especially when it comes to a beloved childhood movie with strong, adoring fans who cherish the film as their own. The audience will not be disappointed; Pixar knows how to deliver when it comes to a thrilling adventure.

With a goose bump worthy finish and a fantastic music line you can feel in your bones, you wouldn't want to miss this action-packed visit back to your childhood.
