Volleyball drops second straight

Volleyball dropped their third straight match and ninth straight set against Oakland at McLin Gym on Saturday, Oct. 17.

WSU fell behind 12-4 in the first set but battled their way back to tie the set at 17 before Oakland ran away with it 25-22.

Senior Marissa Aiello gave the Raiders their first lead of the night in the second set as she spiked the ball over the net to go up 1-0.  The second set was very tight as there were 19 ties and seven lead changes before Oakland closed out the set 34-32.

“That second set was tough,” head coach Susan Clements said.  “That would have been a big moment for this group.”

The Raiders found themselves in a familiar spot down two sets to none before going into the third set.  The set was close as there were nine ties and four lead changes.  WSU trailed 24-19 before scoring four straight points to make the score 24-23 but lost on the next ball after an attack error.

“You can see that we’re right there with the competitive teams at the top we just have to get more consistent,” Clements said.

The Raiders will be back in action at Valparaiso (17-4) on Friday, Oct. 24 for a Horizon League matchup with the Crusaders at 8 p.m.
